The upcoming London Mayoral elections on 6 May will provide a vital opportunity for new commitments to be made to help eliminate single-use plastic water bottles in London. As London begins to emerge from lockdown, we must ensure that the future Mayor continues to work alongside us to protect our streets, our river and our ocean from unnecessary and harmful plastic pollution.
#OneLess pioneers and supporters have joined us in calling on Mayoral candidates to include the following commitments in their manifestos:
- Promote London as a city leading the charge to eliminate unnecessary single-use plastic and build awareness of the impact of single-use plastics on our ocean;
- Ensure sufficient and equal access to public refill points in London;
- Eradicate single-use plastic water bottles in GLA buildings and support London businesses to do the same.
So far, this joint statement has been supported by 36 organisations, including Selfridges, Surfers Against Sewage and King’s College London. Our joint statement has now been sent to mayoral candidates but there is still a chance for organisations who have not yet signed on to our statement to get involved.
Join us in calling on the future Mayor to protect our ocean from plastic pollution by showing your support for our asks and sending your logo to oneless@zsl.org for inclusion on the joint statement. Logos are being listed in the order in which they are received.
Thanks to all our partners who have supported our campaign so far.
